I seem to run into many torrents that require passwords. Someone posts the torrent on a place like torrnetspy. I download the file and fire up the torrent, and it says "rejected. Password required". Then I go back to the posting on torrentspy and read the comments, -- everyone's asking what the password is, and no one's providing it. What gives?

Re: what's the deal with passwords?
Mon, July 9, 2007 - 6:30 PMAnother development is "spam torrents". You download a RAR and it
has a comment, "to get password, visit this site...". Any time you
encounter one of these, flag it with a zero integrity if you can.
There may even be shill seeders involved with these torrents to make it
look like the torrent is active. TCPView could show shills within the same
general domain. -
